Theta Iota Community Scholarship

Efforts began in September 1973 when a letter was presented to Brother G.W. Ellis of Miami, Florida, from Jerry Randolph, issuing a request to establish a chapter of Phi Beta Sigma on the campus of Mississippi State University. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was approved on the campus as an official student organization on April 30, 1976 but it was not until the Fall of 1976, the fraternity was truly recognized. The Theta Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Fraternity, Incorporated was charted on the campus of Mississippi State University on September 20, 1976, known as “THE GREAT EIGHT”. The first person initiated into the chapter was Brother Carl Hathorn.

The ongoing quest for the Theta Iota chapter is to serve Mississippi State University campus, as well as the Golden Triangle Area, by providing and endorsing meaningful social activities, making available opportunities for scholarly endeavors, and most importantly, attracting and maintaining a collective of young business minded men who possess high morals and socioeconomics standards because without them the chapter would cease to exist and its ideals would perish.
