Queen Esther Irene Jones Lyle was born on May 11, 1919 in Smith County to Reverend Nathan and Minnie Mayers Jones of Raleigh, Mississippi. Irene was brought up in the church and served in several ministries. She was a teacher, secretary, mission worker, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars. She earned her degree in Education from Jackson State University. She began her teaching career at Midway School. She went on to teach at Murphy High School (now known as South Leake/Leake County) for over 20 years. During her tenure, she taught 1st grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and Special Education. She had a passion for not only teaching children, but also sharing the knowledge of God.

Irene married the late Marshall "Bro" Lyle and to this union, they had seven children: Jerry Marshall Lyle, Cecil Lyle, Shirley Hutchen, Dorothy Fortune, Katherine Sanders, the late Willie Earl Lyle, and the late Billy Ray Lyle. She also has three step-children, Lois Jean Kincaid, Otha Lee, and Paul Mitchell. Irene passed away on March 30, 1999 in her Lena home.
