Ashton Washington Women of Color Annual Scholarship

As a woman of color born in the state of Mississippi, an HBCU graduate from Huston-Tillotson University and her grandmother a graduate of Rust College - Ashton Washington has decided to execute her mission of never forgetting where she comes from.

 

With this scholarship, she hopes to help excel a young woman of color to pursue her own dreams and have the opportunity to attend an HBCU in the state of Mississippi.

 

She lives by the Bible verse, “He must become greater; I must become less.” John 3:30

 

Requirements:

The recipient must be a woman of color currently enrolled as a senior in any high school in the state of Mississippi.

 

The recipient must plan to attend a HBCU in the state of Mississippi.

 

 

Scholarship Inclusion:

The recipient of this scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship paid directly to the junior college or university of his/her choice.

 

 

Application Requirements:

Applicants will be required to submit a video presentation no longer than 2 minutes and 20 seconds answering the following question.

Please include the following in your response:

  • Introduction. Tell us your name, where you are from, your current high school, and where you plan to attend college.
  • Response. Do you think the sense of belongingness is important in the educational setting? Why or why not?
  • Personal. How has the presence or absence of the sense of belongingness impacted your educational journey?
  • Lessons. What changes(if any) would you have made?
  • Closing. How would receiving this scholarship contribute to your career path?

 

Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA; must submit school transcript when applicable.

 

Some Advice:

  • Try to restate the questions in your response.
  • Remember posture is important.
  • Record your video with appropriate lighting using a neutral background.
  • Pick a quiet area.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Your final submission should be free of grammatical errors.
